On April 21st, the ATSD (Automatic Train Stop at Danger) system, which is among work of phase I and phase II Buenos Aires (Argentina) Sarmiento Line Signaling System Renovation Project, was put into commercial operation.
With a total length of 38 km and 17 stations, the Sarmiento Line is one of the seven suburban commuter railways in Argentina. The existing signaling system was equipped with the products of 1950s and 1960s.
CRSC signed the contract to renovate the line with Argentina Ministry of the Interior & Transportation in July, 2013, and is responsible for not only providing the on-board and way-side equipment for the existing and newly-procured trains, but also the engineering design, installation and supervision, site commissioning and training task. After the signing, CRSC International Company has been delegated to organize the system development, product manufacturing and project implementing with the assistance of other subsidiaries.
CRSC International Company attaches great attention to the project implementation and initiates a number of meetings with relevant companies to proactively advance the project by finding solution for various problems under the condition of pressing construction period, heavy work-loads and complex technical issues. Thanks to the joint effort from all the aspects, the delivery of on-board equipment, and balise ect. was completed within a short period of several months, and such tough technical problems as the compatibility of the existing old equipment interface and the adaptability of on-board system have been successfully tackled. During the commissioning period, technicians from several related subsidiaries were sent to the site to deal with any emergencies that might stand in the way of a smooth opening of the line. Working together with the Argentina railway corporation under an effective and cooperative mechanism, they made sure the opening of the line as scheduled.
ATSD is the over-speed train protection system tailored for the Argentina suburban railways, which can effectively fend off the train accidents, improve Sarmiento Line’s operational security and secure passengers’ safety. The system has obtained European standard safety certification issued by an independent third party.
The implementation of the project has successfully promoted the signaling on-board control system and balises, which are independently developed by CRSC, to the South American market. The opening of the line has received highly praise from the Argentina Ministry of the Interior & Transportation, which has won a good reputation for CRSC in Argentina and laid a foundation for further market exploitation of Latin America.
